Semidiurnal: two high and two low tides a day, of similar height.
Heights above mean lower low water (MLLW), the zero of US nautical charts. Astronomical prediction: wind and air pressure can raise or lower the water by a few inches, and more in a storm. Not for navigation. MLLW

Where this tide comes from
Papa has no station of its own, so we use the tide at Asau Harbor (NOAA), 5.9 mi away. On the open coast the difference is usually a few minutes and inches; inside estuaries, rivers and enclosed bays it can be much larger. It is a NOAA subordinate station: its times and heights come from the Apia (Observatory) reference station with the official corrections.

The waves you may find
- Most commonMost common2.2 ft

One wave in seven is higher than the significant height, and about 3 times a day one reaches 8.8 ft. Before heading out, expect waves of up to 8.8 ft.
Wind on the coast and offshore
The model doesn't separate offshore wind here: it's the same as on the coast.
Cross-onshore wind. The coast faces north and the wind comes in from the sea at an angle: a bit more surf at the shore and drift along the coast, toward land.
Wave height, next 7 daysWaves, next 7 days
Waves stay much the same all week. The biggest waves arrive on Wednesday 4: 5.8 ft with a period of 10 s, from the south (moderate).
Water temperature

For fishing, swimming and diving
- Shore fishing. Shallow, gradual bottom (16 ft at 2.3 mi): cast far from the beach and fish the high tide, when there is more water close in.
- Swimming. A very gentle way in with plenty of shallow water, good for kids. At low tide the water can be far out.
- Diving. Shallow near shore: you only reach 33 ft at 2.3 mi. For dives deeper than 33 ft, go by boat.
Rough estimate: here the data comes in cells of about 0.3 mi and misses details near shore (rocks, sandbars, small coves).
