Where this tide comes from
South Dennis has no station of its own, so we use the tide at South Yarmouth (NOAA), 2.2 mi away. On the open coast the difference is usually a few minutes and inches; inside estuaries, rivers and enclosed bays it can be much larger. It is a NOAA subordinate station: its times and heights come from the Boston reference station with the official corrections.

Cross-shore wind. The coast faces northwest and the wind blows along the shore: drift and current run parallel to the beach.
