Where this tide comes from
Leonardtown has no station of its own, so we use the tide at Colton Point (NOAA), 7.7 mi away. On the open coast the difference is usually a few minutes and inches; inside estuaries, rivers and enclosed bays it can be much larger. It is a NOAA subordinate station: its times and heights come from the Washington reference station with the official corrections.

The sea at Leonardtown
Sea state
The wave model doesn't reach Leonardtown: it's on inland water (an estuary, sound or sheltered bay) or far from the open sea. Wind is still available right here.
Wind on the coast and offshore
The model doesn't separate offshore wind here: it's the same as on the coast.
Cross-shore wind. The coast faces south and the wind blows along the shore: drift and current run parallel to the beach.
Water temperature
Water temperature →Water temperature changes how fish behave: in very cold or very warm water they feed less. The water is steady these days, with no sudden changes.

For fishing, swimming and diving
- Shore fishing. Very shallow: the water doesn't reach 16 ft within 0.8 mi. Cast far from the beach, ideally around high tide.
- Swimming. The water gets deeper little by little, but a few dozen yards out you can no longer stand.
- Diving. Shallow: the water doesn't reach 33 ft within 0.8 mi. For deeper dives, take a boat farther out.
Inside bays, estuaries and harbors the bottom changes a lot from spot to spot (channels and shoals): use this only as a rough guide. There is land ahead (an island, a headland or the far shore) 0.8 mi out. The profile is turned slightly from the coast so it does not run into an island or a headland.
