Where this tide comes from
Dana Point has no station of its own, so we use the tide at San Clemente (NOAA), 5.8 mi away. On the open coast the difference is usually a few minutes and inches; inside estuaries, rivers and enclosed bays it can be much larger. It is a NOAA subordinate station: its times and heights come from the San Diego (Broadway) reference station with the official corrections.

Cross-shore wind. The coast faces southwest and the wind blows along the shore: drift and current run parallel to the beach.
